GeoSoftware Booth #1716
George R. Brown, Houston, Texas
Although the HampsonRussell Software Suite's primary use has been for identifying hydrocarbon prospects, our software is increasingly being used in green applications, particularly for geothermal and CCUS projects. In this presentation, I will show two case studies in which our software has been successfully applied in these two areas.
The first case study is a geothermal project from southeast Saskatchewan. A large 3D was utilized to evaluate a deep basal clastic geothermal target zone. I discuss the results of this analysis and show how pre-stack inversion and machine learning aided in delineating the deep sedimentary geothermal reservoirs.
The second case study utilized the time-lapse seismic monitoring dataset from the Sleipner CO2 storage operation in the Norwegian North Sea, generously released by the CO2. Using seven vintages of the seismic data, which included near, mid, and far offset stacks, we first applied the tools in the Pro4D time-lapse program to optimally process and interpret the data. We then performed pre-stack analysis on the data using the AVO and STRATA programs and spectral analysis on the post-stack volumes using the CWT technique in the Volume Attributes program. The results demonstrate that both pre-stack and spectral techniques are invaluable for delineating the expansion of the CO2 plume over the Sleipner Field.

Presented by Brian Russell, Vice President.
Brian Russell is the co-founder of HampsonRussell software and has over 40 years of experience in the oil and gas industry. He began his career as an interpreter for Chevron, where he moved into its geophysical technology division and found his passion for software. Then he went to Veritas Seismic, where he met Dan Hampson. Their strong working relationship led them to form their own software company in 1987. Brian’s involvement in developing the HampsonRussell software product line has led to its worldwide success for over 35 years.
